Position Summary: Grace House Ministries is a Christian group home for girls ages 6-18 from crisis backgrounds. House Parents are responsible for providing a loving and stable family environment for every girl living at Grace House. House Parents serve as mother and father to each child, provide daily routine care and teach the girls to be respectful, well mannered and responsible. House Parents also supervise and participate in the educational, spiritual development and extracurricular activities of the children.
House parents are hired as a couple, paid separately. The Ministry pays for health and dental insurance and offers paid holidays, vacation and sick leave. House parents live on campus with the children and have two weekends off per month. During the school year, house parents have flexibility during the day while the girls are in school. Summer months are restricted to one week paid vacation leave while the girls attend an away camp.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Helps each child develop a strong Christian character and a positive self-image
· Provides a safe environment that promotes the general welfare of the children
· Implements planned wholesome, age-appropriate activities for each child
· Provides proper supervision of the children both at home and away from home
· Ensures that each child has adequate and appropriate clothing and shoes
· Protects the physical and personal privacy of each child from inappropriate actions by others
· Monitors the physical, emotional, and mental health of the children
· Teaches children to care for their personal belongings and to respect the property of others
· Teaches and monitors good hygiene practices (combing hair, brushing teeth, showering, etc.)
· Assigns weekly chores to the children, teaching them how to perform them correctly, including keeping their rooms clean and tidy at all times
· Assist residence with homework assignments
· Submits Medicaid billing in a timely manner
· Plans monthly menus and provide three balanced meals and nutritional snacks for each child daily; Submits CNPs monthly
· Schedules appointments and transports residents to medical, dental, and counseling appointments
· Responsible for medication cabinet (prescription and over the counter refills, maintain/updates medication logs, discarding expired medications)
· Administers medications as prescribed by a physician, and documents all administrations of medication
· Collaborates with the Clinical Director and Education Coordinator in the development of disciplinary procedures and behavior modification techniques; administers according to policy
· Immediately reports to the Clinical Director all injuries, accidents, and incidents that affect the physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual well-being of the children
· Observes all birthdays of the children as well as holidays, respecting the ethnic and cultural diversities of each child
· Implements all household functions as planned or instructed by the Clinical Director or Education Coordinator
· Maintains updated logs on the children’s activities and submit all required reports in a timely manner
· Maintains a list of needed groceries and household supplies and shops on a consistent basis
· Maintains household, appliance, and equipment records and documents all expenditures
· Keeps all household appliances and equipment in good working order by immediately notifying the Executive Assistant of any repair needs
· Maintains the household in a clean and orderly manner at all times
· Keeps the grounds well-groomed and free of hazardous objects at all times
· Attends regularly scheduled devotion, staff, treatment team, and ISP (as requested) meetings
· Participates in Grace House Ministries staff orientation, DHR Minimum Standards training, parent education workshops and seminars pertinent to innovative and creative parenting techniques
· Operate homes in compliance with state licensing, fire codes, and health permits
· Conducts a practice emergency evaluation drill every two months or upon the admission of a new resident.
Qualifications:
· Must be 25 years of age
· Married at least two years
· College degree preferred with course work in early childhood development, childcare, psychology, or related areas
· Prior experience working with children and youth (preferably children and youth from poverty or similar challenged settings)
· Current certification in CPR and basic first aid
· Good physical health as documented by a current physical examination
· Computer literate and technical savvy
· Strong organization and communication skills Security clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, and the Child Abuse and Neglect registry
· Some travel to local areas: Proof of Alabama driver’s license and car insurance (required)
